Big disappointment for Marion Rousse

While she expected a lot from the 13 kilometers of white paths between Troyes and Bar-Le-Duc, the fourth stage gave birth to a mouse.

It was to be one of the big meetings of this women’s Tour de France. After three first stages without great difficulty, except for the great nervousness that has run through the peloton since the start of the Champs-Elysées on Sunday, the candidates for the final victory were going to be able to launch the big explanation. This fourth stage with nearly 13 kilometers of white paths worthy of the famous Strade Bianche promised to be spectacular.

“Several sectors should make the difference as we approach Bar-sur-Aube. These unpaved areas will be much more copious than those that the Men’s Tour had recently offered on the Glières plateau and at the top of La Planche des Belles Filles”, warned Marion Rousse about these “white paths covered with chalk and often very steep”. Invited by Eurosport to designate the stage that she would have liked to take part in when she was a runner, the director of the Tour had also designated this stage of the white paths.

Long awaited, this fourth stage did not meet the promises placed in them. The big explanation has not happened and the gaps remain the same or almost. The white roads have certainly made a victim, the Spanish champion Mavi Garcia, victim of mechanical problems and a fall, and who loses in the final 1’31” on the other favorites of the Tour de France. Few falls or punctures have punctuated these 13 kilometers of white paths and Annemiek van Vleuten, ill for several days and who had lost time in the final towards Epernay, was able to keep pace at the front. We will therefore surely have to wait for the last two stages, which are mountainous, to witness the big explanation.
