After the former director of Pemex, Emilio Lozoya Austin, was seen last Saturday, October 9, chatting quietly in a luxury restaurant in Mexico City, the president of the Political Coordination Board, Ricardo Monreal Ávila, announced that the Senate will have greater interference and will discuss this matter with the Attorney General of the Republic, Alexander Gertz Manero.
At a press conference, after meeting with the Chancellor Marcelo Ebrard, the leader of the bench of Brunette in the Senate, he warned that protected witnesses must submit to a different status and act with prudence, with great caution and not go publicly exposing themselves.
“The fact of being able to be a protected witness or collaborator, any person, does not allow them to have such a wide freedom, to be in places of recreation, and less publicly exposed.
“You have to act with thoughtfulness and moderation. (…) We simply believe that protected witnesses they must submit to a different status and that they must act prudently and with great caution due to the delicate role in which they find themselves, “said Monreal Ávila.
The president of the Jucopo clarified that the prosecutor Gertz Manero retains the confidence of the majority in the Senate, but there will be more dialogue and dialogue with him to prevent these types of situations from occurring again
“What I can tell you is that the attorney general of the Republic up to this moment in the Senate -especially in the majority- has a vote of confidence and it seems to us that he has carried out his role correctly. It’s a prudent prosecutor, careful, I try, but that does not exempt us from meeting with him ”.
He said that the Senate, not only in this case, but in that of the autonomous organs, will have greater interference and dialogue, “for reasons proper to the position and because the Senate is the one who appoints them.
Then we will do the same, without this implying exceeding our role ”, he said.
For his part, the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Mario Ebrard, consulted on the public appearance of Emilio Lozoya, said that seeing that scene was “shocking”.
