Three other bathers, who were also in difficulties, left the sea by their own means, said, however, a source from the Ílhavo Fire Brigade.

According to a statement from the National Maritime Authority, the alert for the situation was given at 13:38, through the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center in Lisbon, “to inform that there was a man in difficulties on an unguarded beach”.

The man who would later die “was rescued from the water, already unconscious, by the lifeguards, who immediately started the resuscitation maneuvers”.

“The resuscitation maneuvers were then continued by INEM elements, who managed to reach the site with the support of a Maritime Police all-terrain vehicle, since the accident occurred in an area where the ambulance was unable to reach due to lack of access”, indicates the AMN.
