Wild scenes in the NBA! And in the middle of it all, superstar LeBron James.
The third quarter of his Los Angeles Lakers game against the Detroit Pistons is underway when the 36-year-old and Isaiah Stewart scramble for a good rebound position. He hits his opponent in the face. Stewart goes down and gets up again seconds later. Covered in blood! The 20-year-old has a cut over his right eye and is beside himself. He attacks LeBron and wants to confront him.
The teammates react immediately if they want to separate the two angry players. The coaches and referees also join in, and a huge commotion ensues. Stewart can hardly be reassured, keeps tearing himself loose. As reported by US media, LeBron is said to have tried to apologize. The angry Pistons Center was not interested in that.
Second time for LeBron
Ultimately, the referees put LeBron off the pitch. He is escorted from the parquet and disappears into the cabin aisle. For Stewart, too, the game ends prematurely. He also flies as the cause of the commotion. And wants to rush after James and still grab him. His teammates can just prevent that from happening.
For LeBron James, however, it should be little consolation that his team ultimately wins 121: 116. The expulsion at the second game after his injury break is something he has only experienced once in his long career. Four years ago, in November 2017, against his ex-club Miami Heat. (red)
