When the World Championships in Athletics begin in Eugene (USA) on July 15, a big name will be missing. The three-time Olympic champion in the hammer throw, Anita Wlodarczyk, has to declare a forfait for the highlight of the season.
Strange circumstances of injury
Like the Polish on Instagram reported that she sustained an injury to her thigh when confronting the thief. She was already operated on Monday and will miss the upcoming World Championships as well as the European Championships in Munich a month later.
A few days ago a man tried to steal her car. «I arrested the thief single-handedly and handed him over to the police. Unfortunately, I paid for it with a muscle injury,” she wrote. Wlodarczyk, who was the first athlete to win Olympic gold in a discipline for the third time in a row last year in Tokyo, is not thinking about the end of her career. The goal is the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
