Austin Cindric dominates Dover practice

Team Penske rookie driver Austin Cindric was fastest in the first practice at Dover Motor Speedway. The winner of the Daytona 500 last February completed his best lap in 22.807 seconds at an average of 157.846 mph.

At the wheel of the Ford n°2 he beat a surprising AJ Allmendinger. The #16 Chevrolet driver finished with a best lap of 22.813 seconds. Justin Haley, Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch completed the Top-5 of this 45-minute session.

The practice session was interrupted several times following accidents. Bilicki, Gilliland, Reddick, Byron and Burton all made mistakes on this Dover track. The track is obviously difficult to tackle with cold tyres.

It should be noted that Byron’s No. 24 Chevrolet was badly damaged in a collision with the outside wall and that the driver had to switch to a reserve car from Hendrick Motorsport. He will therefore start from the back of the peloton on Sunday for the race.

Below are the test results at Dover and Austin Cindric’s best time.
