More than 160 original works and unpublished films by the famous American artist are to be discovered in Montreux from June 10 to August 29.
The Auditorium Stravinski in Montreux welcomes from Thursday until August 29 «Andy Warhol – Pop Art Identities». The exhibition features more than 160 original works and previously unreleased films by the famous American artist. It is also the occasion to recall his visit to Montreux in 1986.
The exhibition offers a different narrative since it tells the concept of identity of Andy Warhol (1928-1987). She does this through her main characters, her iconic works, through non-conceptual expressions, but stemming from an ordinary aesthetic, explained the curator of the exhibition Maurizio Vanni at Keystone-ATS.
A before and an after
Andy Warhol recounts his time through consumer objects. He believed that art should enter everyone’s home, which screen printing allows, added the curator. In the history of art, there has been a before and an after Andy Warhol.
The exhibition synthesizes the entire artistic history of the master of pop art. Among the works, the famous series of portraits devoted to Marilyn and Mao, Campbell soups and his obsession with the death of John Kennedy.
Andy Warhol is not unrelated to Montreux: he came there a year before his death with his friend Keith Haring. He signed with him the brilliant poster for the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1986, said Maurizio Vanni. And to emphasize that for both artists, genius corresponded to simplicity.
