Toyota plans to present and launch next year the new GR Corolla. The well-known Toyota model for the C segment (compact) will thus have its sports version signed by Gazoo Racing, the sports division of the Japanese carmaker.
But beware, as Autoblog clarifies, it should not be confused with the Corolla GR Sport that was launched for sale in Argentina last February. This is a version with a sporty look and some changes to the suspension, which comes imported from Brazil.
As reported by Forbes magazine, the GR Corolla will be equipped with the well-known 1.6-liter turbonafter three-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower and 371 Nm of torque. It will be combined with a six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive (with variable torque distribution on each axle).
The GR Corolla will be manufactured at the GR Factory in Motomachi, Japan and will share many components with the GR Yaris.
Rumors circulated in Japan that spoke of an engine preparation with up to 300 horsepower, but that will be reserved for special variants destined for circuits.
Always according to Forbes, the GR Corolla will be built with only hatchback bodywork. It will have five doors (against only three on the GR Yaris) and a sedan variant is not planned, at least for now.
