Attention to driving license and revision: the new deadlines

New deadlines and extensions for driving licenses, driving exams e revision of vehicles. With the extension of the state of emergency due to the pandemic from Covid-19 until next March 31st, the “calendar” of administrative procedures to be dealt with in order to circulate without incurring various penalties and fines also changes.

In the last 18 months, in fact, there have been numerous postponements of various deadlines, starting from the renewal of the license, and it cannot be excluded that, in the coming months, in front of the offices of the Civil Motorization, Aci () and Driving Schools there will be a bit of crowding. Then better start preparing by making a summary of the new automotive calendar.

The new deadlines

For those who must obtain the driving license, if they have submitted the application from January 1st 2021 to March 31st 2022 they will be able to take the test within 1 year (and not within six months) from the date of submission and acceptance of the application. Instead, as regards the pink sheets expiring between January 31, 2020 and March 31, 2022, the extension will be valid until June 29, 2022 (ninetieth day after March 31, 2022, current date of termination of the state of health emergency).

In the case of expired driving licenses – between January 31, 2020 and March 31, 2022 – or expiring, the documents will be valid until June 29, 2022.

In the event that it is necessary to circulate in an EU country, as the MIT reminds us:

  • driving licenses issued in Italy, expiring between February 1, 2020 and May 31, 2020 are valid for up to 13 months after the normal expiry
  • driving licenses issued in Italy, expiring between 1 June 2020 and 31 August 2020, are valid until 1 July 2021
  • driving licenses issued in Italy, expiring between 1 September 2020 and 30 June 2021, are valid until 10 months after the normal expiry

Finally, as regards the inspections of vehicles of category M (e.g. cars, buses, motor homes), N (e.g. trucks, articulated lorries) and O3-O4 (trailers with a mass greater than 3.5 t.) Whose revision is expired in the period between October 2020 and June 2021, the circulation validity will be up to 10 months after the normal expiry.

For the same categories but with inspection expired after June 2021 and for vehicles of category L (e.g. motorcycles, mopeds, minicars) and O1-O2 (trailers with a mass of less than 3.5 t.) There are no extensions applicable.
