Kenyan Benson Kipruto won the Boston Marathon this Monday, which meets its 125th edition, after completing the tour in 2.09: 51. This is the first victory in a ‘major’ for Kipruto, who in the last edition of 2019 -not held in 2020 due to the pandemic- finished in tenth position.
The Kenyan forged his triumph in the last two kilometers, in which he managed to outrun his rivals with an attack. Kipruto won the Prague Marathon this year and also won the Toronto Marathon in 2018, but this Monday he added his triumph in a ‘major’. The Ethiopian Lemi Berhanu, second with 2.10: 37, and Jemal Yimer, third with 2.10: 38 completed the podium.
In women, the victory went to the Kenyan Diani Chemtai Kipyogei, with 2.24: 50. Kipyogei was the leader of the event at kilometer 28, although Ethiopian Gudeta rivaled her in the final stage. Kenyan Kiplagat (2.25: 09) and Mary Ngugi (2.25: 20) completed the podium in women.
