For the impressive and very cinematic final episode of its fourth season, the series Stranger Things hit hard. On the roof of a house, while an army of bats from hell are about to attack it, Eddie, a metal fan, takes out amp and guitar for a dantesque cover of the Master of Puppets by Metallica. The impact of the sequence was such that the Californian group paid tribute to him through a virtual duet. Should we see this as proof that metal is trendier than ever in 2022, far from the margins to which it has often been confined despite its vast and loyal audience? Still, Netflix also produced the film Metal Lordsa learning story full of references – and with a terrific appearance from Scott Ian (Anthrax), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Kirk Hammett (Metallica) and Rob Halford (Judas Priest) – in which two middle schoolers who do not fit not in the mold will reveal themselves through heavy rock.
