Actually, Arjen Robben had already ended his career in 2019. However, he came back for his home club FC Groningen last year. Now it should finally be over.
But now for real: Arjen Robben has declared his career as a footballer over. The Dutchman announced this early Thursday afternoon via social media. There he posted a longer letter and wrote in Dutch:
“Dear football friends, I have decided to end my active football career. A very difficult decision. I would like to thank everyone for their heartwarming support!”
Robben left FC Bayern in 2019 after ten years. He was then without a club for a year before he jumped to the side of his home club FC Groningen in the Corona crisis last summer. Due to various injuries, Robben only came on seven missions.
So now the end of my career. One of Robben’s greatest successes was winning the Champions League with FC Bayern in 2013. He also won the English, Spanish and eight German championships.
Robben played a total of 96 international matches for the Dutch national team, scoring 37 goals. At FC Groningen he made his professional debut at the tender age of 16.
