Technology giant Apple has introduced a device repair program that allows iPhone owners to repair their smartphones themselves. To this end, the Self Service Repair Store was launched, an online platform where manuals and instructions are provided and spare parts can be ordered. More than 200 spare parts such as displays, batteries or cameras are currently available for the iPhone models 12, 13 and SE. In the course of the year, instructions and spare parts for the Mac computers will also be added. The spare parts should be exactly the same as those made available to the authorized dealers, and they should be offered at the same price. Apple also provides a tool kit that can be purchased or rented for $49 for one-off repairs.
Apple’s Self Service Repair Program can be used immediately in the US and will soon be extended to European countries. (rd)
