The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are causing problems. More precisely, according to a service notification from Apple, there may be sound problems due to faulty components in the handset module. Affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021 and are now being repaired by Apple.
Several service procedures are possible
“If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro doesn’t play any sound when you make or receive calls, it may be eligible for service,” Apple said in its service notice. This is of course checked before the repair. When you are officially qualified, you can choose from various service procedures. An appointment can be made in the Apple Store, you can contact Apple Service and then send in the device or, as a third alternative, go to an authorized repair shop.
In addition, the company makes it clear that the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max models are not affected by the problem.
Apple recommends a backup before service
However, there are a few things that should be considered before the service. So it is important to back up the iPhone in iCloud or on the computer beforehand. In addition, the damaged device must be prepared for service by having your Apple ID password and identity card ready. Furthermore, Apple makes it clear that in some cases additional repair costs have to be paid. “If the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro has damage that prevents the repair from being carried out (such as a cracked display), this problem must be resolved first before the actual service can be carried out.”
However, it is unclear whether the technology giant will actually repair the damaged device or simply replace it with a new and functioning model.
