Another decisive seventh game for El Nino and the Hurricanes

As in the previous round against Boston, Carolina will play its survival in these play-offs in a seventh game at home. The Hurricanes did not convert a first match point against New York.

At Madison Square Garden, Nino Niederreiter and his teammates lost 5-2 to Rangers. Author of 37 saves and… 2 assists, Igor Shesterkin was the big man of the evening. The Muscovite became the fifth goalkeeper in history to deliver two assists in a play-off game.

Led 3-0 after 23 minutes of play, the Hurricanes quickly projected themselves towards Act VII which will take place in Raleigh. Beaten three times out of the thirteen shots that were sent to him, Antti Raanta was thus replaced by Pyotr Kochetkov in order to preserve him for Monday’s meeting. It will be recalled that Carolina has won its seven matches played so far on its ice in these final series. The winner of this series will face two-time defending champion Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Aligned for 12’56” of play, Nino Niederreiter was credited with a neutral record in this sixth game which underlined the strength of character of the Rangers. Led 3-1 in the previous round against Pittsburgh, New York has, in fact, won for the fourth time a match during which it was playing its survival during these play-offs.
