On March 12, 1987, through Ministerial Agreement No. 0318 published in Official Gazette No. 642, the beautiful region of San Francisco del Vergel was elevated to a parish. Its management committee was made up of the following: president, Carlos Alberto Vicente Jiménez; vice president, Vicente Cumbicos; secretary, José Miguel Salazar; treasurer, Miguel Guayanay; and, members: Florita Castillo, Rogelio Salazar and Clotario Salazar. Its brave inhabitants, upon colonizing these fertile lands, came walking whole days from Yangana, seeking better living conditions, some of them coming from Orquídea del Sur Amaluza, Cariamanga and other places in the province of Loja.
San Francisco del Vergel, a land of great ecological biodiversity, is currently one of the five parishes of the Palanda canton, this March 12, 2023, it celebrates thirty-six years of parochialization. In the educational field, San Francisco del Vergel has a valuable institution, the “Valle del Chinchipe” College, which works with 12 brand new teachers, including the rector and a secretary, has 215 students, each year a significant number are incorporated Later, some of them prefer university degrees, such as food engineering, veterinary medicine and others offered in the South of the country. The Luis Rivadeneira Escobar School of Basic Education has nine enthusiastic teachers, with one hundred students and more students each year, who arrive with a great spirit of improvement.
For such an important event of political rise in the parish of San Francisco del Vergel, it is expressed, with great joy, a cordial greeting and a fraternal hug to all the inhabitants of this beautiful region, which fills us with emotion when looking at it.
San Francisco del Vergel has developed mainly thanks to the contribution of the authorities of the Chinchipe canton, the Palanda canton and the Zamora Chinchipe Prefecture; and, on the occasion of its anniversary, a civic and respectful call is made, to attend to its urgent needs in a timely manner.
