Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, lamented the death of the first Mexican actor Ignacio López Tarsoat the age of 98, after having suffered severe pneumonia and intestinal obstruction.
Through his official social networks, the Mexican president said goodbye to one of the most emblematic actors who made history in the cinema, theater and soap operas of the Aztec country.
“I regret the death of Ignacio López Tarso. Outstanding leading man in movies and other genres of acting art. I prefer Pito Pérez, based on the novel by José Rubén Romero and the text that Tin Tan repeats in that filming: “Poor devil, how sorry I am for him, because he has never heard a word of compassion or affection”. I send hugs to his family and friends, ”AMLO wrote.
“Macario”, a film starring Tarso, had an Oscar nomination
Ignacio López Tarso starred in the 1960 film “Macario” by director Roberto Gavaldón, it is a fantastic and mysterious story of a poor and obsessed villager.
The film became the first Mexican production in history to be nominated for the Oscar Awardsin the category of best foreign language film, during the final part of the so-called “golden age” of Mexican cinema.
“I came to the cinema when there was no more gold, but there was still a tail there, they were all there,” said López Tarso in a talk they gave him in 2016, talking about actors like Emilio “El Indio” Fernández, Dolores del Río, María Félix and the director Luis Buñuel, who was also her friend.
