Overweight, Alison Clarke had the feeling of truth she needed when a letter from the hospital told her that she was preparing for a heart attack.
At about thirty meters, she had reached the 14th place in balloon after being stuffed with mountains of cheese on toast, packets of chips, biscuits and takeaways intended for the family.
And the 54-year-old grandmother was so embarrassed by her height that she hid being photographed.
But now she has transformed her life after joining Slimming World and now teaches others how to choose a healthier lifestyle.
"It's a letter from a hospital consultant that made me understand that I needed to change," said Alison of High Spen, Gateshead.
"I had been sent to the hospital for extremely high cholesterol and blood pressure.
"The letter I received from the consultant indicated that I was heading for a heart attack and stroke and that I was diabetic.
"I was already suffering from rheumatoid arthritis pain every day and I felt like I just could not continue.
"I burst into tears and I was terrified.
"All that the doctor said is the result of morbid obesity. At 5 feet 3 inches, I weighed more than 14 stones.
"The physical effects of being overweight now destroyed my health, just as it had affected my confidence and my self-esteem for years.
"I had always struggled with my weight, taken many fad diets, spent a fortune on miracle diets of weight loss – and still regained weight, and more.
"Yo-Yo was my middle name.I had a habit of regularly consuming gigantic cheese on toast, family-size chip packets, cookie packets and take-aways.
"After receiving this letter, I knew it was now or never if I wanted to be there to see my grandchildren grow up.
"I felt embarrassed to have my grandchildren take a picture and look back now, there are very few at this point in my life."
With the doctor's words ringing in her ears, Alison was quick to adapt her favorite foods to low-fat products and lose weight.
"I could always have my favorite meals. Homemade fish, fries and curries, as long as I cooked them in Slimming World style. More takeaway for me, "said Alison.
"In just 27 weeks, I lost the 4th and went from size 20/22 to size 10/12 and weighed only 10 pounds. I had a healthy BMI with a food synthesis.
"The support and encouragement of my Slimming World group has been invaluable. I made new friends and my confidence grew.
Alison was elected Miss Slinky and wife of the year 2019 by her colleagues.
And after getting rid of her fat, Alison is now happy to have her picture taken with her grandchildren for the very first time.
Since losing weight, she has developed a love for the outdoors and now walks every day for at least four miles and up to 12 days on some days. Something she could never have dreamed of doing before.
"I no longer need drugs for cholesterol or high blood pressure and I can manage my rheumatoid arthritis better," she said.
Alison earned her Diamond Target member award in the Chopwell Group on Nov. 7, which means that she has maintained her target weight for 12 months or more.
"I am now healthy, happy and confident and I have totally changed my eating habits.
"I'm happy that my picture is taken and I feel that my life is back – forever."
Slimming World impressed Alison so much that she decided to train as a consultant and help others get back to normal life.
She will relaunch the Chopwell Slimming World group at the Chopwell Community Center at 7 pm on Thursday November 14, 2019. For more information, call Alison at 07930697630.
