Ambassador Antonov said about attempts by US politicians to influence Russia against the background of negotiations

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that the calls in the United States for the introduction of “crippling” anti-Russian sanctions are futile.

“We believe that the calls in the Capitol for the introduction of ‘crippling’ anti-Russian restrictions, as well as personal sanctions against the top leadership of the Russian Federation are provocative and unpromising,” Antonov said on the Facebook page of the Russian Embassy in the United States.

According to him, the allegations of an allegedly impending plan of Russia’s attack on Ukraine are “a figment of the sick imagination of local Russophobic circles.”

“One gets the impression that American politicians launched the myth of the“ imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine ”through the press and are now overcoming their own phobias. Moreover, behind the demands of legislators to “punish more painfully” our country is an attempt to influence Russia against the background of ongoing negotiations on European security, “the diplomat said.

Earlier, American senators proposed to introduce restrictions on a number of financial institutions in Russia, including Sberbank, VTB and Gazprombank, in the event of an aggravation of the situation around Ukraine.
