World champion Sofiane El Bakkali confirmed that he will not participate in the Diamond League final in the American city of Eugene, stressing his solidarity with the victims of the recent earthquake, which left huge human and material losses.
Sufyan Al-Bakali posted a picture on his official accounts on social networking sites of him donating blood, commenting on it by saying: “Peace be upon you, today I confirmed that I will not participate in the Diamond League final in the American city of Eugene for reasons beyond my control.”
He added: “Immediately after I confirmed that I would not participate, the first thing I did was participate in the large national blood donation campaign for the benefit of our countrymen affected by the earthquake that our country experienced.”
He concluded: “Once again, I extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to all the families of the victims and a speedy recovery to all those injured.”
It is noteworthy that, two weeks ago, Sofiane El Bakkali won the second gold medal in a row in the 3,000-meter steeplechase race at the World Athletics Championships.
