After Brexit: Boris Johnson plays with the reputation of the United Kingdom

Great Britain has planned to question part of the agreement to leave the European Union, contradicting the sacrosanct principle of respect for the law, which it nevertheless invented.

“Anarchy in the UK”, bawled the Sex Pistols in the mid-1970s. The London punk band’s track would make a perfect soundtrack to illustrate the mood in high places in Britain, since Boris Johnson’s government admitted his Home Market Bill “violates international law”. This text calls into question, and unilaterally, certain clauses of the Brexit agreement concluded in October 2019 with the European Union (EU). “Announce that we are not going to respect a treaty, even before most of what it provides for is implemented (the United Kingdom, which left the EU on January 31, 2020, is required to respect European rules until ‘on the last day of the year), it is to my knowledge unheard of, ”says Yann Kerbrat, director of the Sorbonne’s Institute for Research in International and European Law.
