Africa expert Pfister explains why there are hardly any goals at the Africa Cup

The first day of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations is over, twelve games are through. And it comes to the conclusion that something existential is missing at this year’s event in Cameroon: the goals! There have been two clean sheets and nine (!) 1-0 wins so far. Only hosts Cameroon scored more than one goal in a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso in the opening game. Averaging 1 goal per game. For comparison: At the EM 2021, an average of 2.78 goals were scored per game.
