ADO Den Haag records victory over Excelsior and is approaching coveted second place

Excelsior, which failed to win the last three competition matches, fought back to 2-1 before halftime. Reuven Niemeijer overpowered Wentges with a fine swipe, who made a number of great saves before that.

In the second half Excelsior went looking for the equalizer, but after an hour it was ADO that struck for a third time. Thomas Verheydt mercilessly punished fumbling in the build-up of the home team.

Excelsior came close to an important point after Couhaib Droouech’s long shot, but ADO held out. As a result, the team of trainer Ruud Brood takes over the third place from Excelsior and is still in the race for direct promotion.

The first two places in the rankings result in direct promotion at the end of the season. ADO, which has been deducted six points due to financial disorder, is already assured of the playoffs by winning a period title.
