Abaya at school: “At least ten cases” identified in the Toulouse academy on the day of the new school year

The rector of the Toulouse academy Mostafa Fourar confirmed, Monday, September 4, the case of a “ten students” who showed up wearing an abaya, on this back-to-school day, in several establishments of the second academy degree. Only the Antoine Bourdelle multipurpose high school in Montauban (Tar-et-Garonne) was cited, but not the other establishments concerned.

Obviously, no student, dressed in this long dress mainly worn in Arab countries, has been excluded from the establishments. But the students had to change their outfit to be accepted in class, it was explained to the rectorate of Toulouse.

As a reminder, the new Minister of National Education Gabriel Attal had indicated “that students wearing these clothes could no longer access classes, but would be welcomed in schools”. During his back-to-school press briefing, Mostafa Fourar reiterated that he would be inflexible on the question of wearing the abaya at school.

“Any attempt to destabilize the school of the Republic will be countered, declared the rector of the Toulouse academy. We will be firm on this subject. Support for teachers and school heads.
