For mobile only. And only in some regions.
A brand new XCOM game called XCOM Legends can be found on the Google Play Store.
It comes from a company called Iridium Starfish, which is affiliated with 2K’s parent company Take-Two.
“We are constantly researching and testing new experiences to provide our fans with the best entertainment and value,” a 2K spokesperson told Eurogamer.net.
“Iridium Starfish has soft-launched XCOM Legends in individual areas, but we have no further information to share at this point.”
The game that you can see now on the Google Play Store appears to be a game that was discovered last year. One Redditor came across a Facebook ad for the game, while another spotted it under the name XCOM Heroes.
XCOM Legends is described as a turn-based RPG. There is a campaign in which you take on waves of enemies, you can also recruit new heroes with whom you fight in PvP mode against “those under the control of the aliens”.
Some progress in the game is required to unlock the competitive modes. There are also daily challenges and unique “war stories” tailored to the heroes.
There are even videos with gameplay about it on YouTube, so the soft launch definitely did not escape the players:
It is unclear whether Firaxis is currently working on a new XCOM game. According to rumors from June a kind of “Marvel XCOM” is in the works at the development studio. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
Is an XCOM game for mobile something that interests you? Or do you prefer to play the series in the classic way on the PC or on the console?
