Dhe mysterious holes were discovered in the sand, about 2,540 meters deep, during the second expedition of
Voyage to the Ridge 2022
. You might think these holes were man-made, but the sediments surrounding them suggest they were dug by “something else”, explains the NOAA Ocean Exploration site.
Scientists tried to peek at these holes by poking them with a remote-controlled vehicle, but it didn’t work. They also could not observe if these holes were connected below the surface of the sediments. The examination will be thorough.
These holes have already been reported in the region in the past, in July 2004, but their origin remains a mystery.
