A Bugatti raced against a Formula 1 Red Bull

If you are wanting to see one of the most compelling quarter mile races of recent years, you have come to the right place. In the video above (to see it, click play on the photo), a Bugatti Chiron takes on the Red Bull RB7, the Formula 1 car with which Sebastian Vettel won the World Drivers’ Championship in 2011.

The test was carried out by the famous YouTube channel called Carwow, which specializes in this type of racing. For her, they called none other than David Coulthard, a former Formula 1 driver and a thirteen-time Grand Prix winner, who got behind the wheel of the car.

The Red Bull car is equipped with a motor naftero V8 naturally aspirated and 2.4 liters of displacement, with the capacity to deliver 750 horsepower and reach 18 thousand revolutions per minute, a really shocking figure. All the force is sent to the rear axle (there are Pirelli P Zero tires there) thanks to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The Chiron, meanwhile, hides under the hood a spectacular engine 8.0-liter sixteen-cylinder in dual-view position (it is a W16, something like a double V8), which performs 1500 horsepower and 1600 Nm of maximum torque. Unlike its rival, power travels to both axles (4×4 drive) with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With this mechanical package, you can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.4 seconds and reach a top speed of over 400 km / h.

One of the aspects that could tip the balance in favor of one or the other is, precisely, the weight. The Formula 1 car weighs just 650 kilograms, three times less than the Bugatti sports beast, whose result on the scale is around two tons.

In the three runs that were made with the game stopped, the Chiron started better but was not enough to overcome the Red Bull, who won quite comfortably, with an average of 9.2 seconds vs 9.6 seconds to complete the quarter mile.

But after engaging in a race with the heading moving at 50 miles per hour (which the Bugatti also loses), the duo continue past the quarter mile to run a full mile, and that’s when things get really interesting. for the Chiron, who manages to win the race.
