Gwinnet County, Ga. – A veteran of the region flew for a historic flight Sunday afternoon in honor of Veterans Day.
Herman Tannenbaum is a 97 year old veteran who served in the air force during the Second World War. Today, Tannenbaum had the chance to take a ride in a B-17 bomber with friends.
Channel 2 Action News discussed with him just before take off from the Briscoe Field plane in Lawrenceville.
"I am comforted by the fact that many people are interested in flying and in history, I can not wait to see it, I do not have much to do, I am sitting in the plane, I prefer to sail, but I will look for the sites I recognize, "he said.
VETERANS DAY 2019:
Tannenbaum was a navigator on the B-24 Mitchell during the Second World War in the Philippines. His Sunday race was his first in a B-17 bomber.
"It really pleased me, it was nothing like what we do in wartime," he said. "It was interesting, it brought back memories and it was a joyous experience."
Veteran's neighbor Mike Matthews helped prepare the flight to thank Tannenbaum for his services.
