A former car of Princess Diana goes under the hammer in England. Prince Charles gave the Ford Escort to his fiancée in May 1981, two months before the wedding, announced the Reeman Dansie auction house in Colchester. At the auction on June 29th, a sales price of the equivalent of 38,000 to 50,000 francs is expected.
The mother of Prince William and Harry, who died in an accident in 1997, often used the car to drive to the polo games of the heir to the British throne. She used the silver-colored 1.6l Ghia car until William was born in August 1982.
The vehicle still has its original number plate WEV 297W, the color and seats are still in their original condition. The car with a frog as a hood ornament now has 83,000 miles (133,575 kilometers) on the odometer.
Your Audi has already been auctioned
The car initially belonged to an antique dealer, and the current owner bought it around 2000. The Royals fan rarely drove the car and only shared the secret of the origin with the family.
Even more than 20 years after her death, Princess Diana is extremely popular in Great Britain. Just last year, another former car of hers, an Audi Cabriolet, was sold for 58,000 pounds.
Only a few days after the new auction, on her 60th birthday on July 1st, the sons William and Harry are due to inaugurate a statue of “Lady Di” in London. Both princes gave their daughters the name Diana as a first name.
