Who is under fire: The Snead, GM
Snead has signed a contract extension before the season that keeps him with the Rams until 2023. So there is no risk that the CEO will lose his job. There is no reason for that after building a Super Bowl training last season. However, the focus on him will undoubtedly increase, as he must find a way to rebuild the offensive line and fill a few key positions with very little cap space. The Rams also have no first-round pick after Snead traded their first choice of 2020 (and their first and fourth-round picks of 2021) against cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who is also seeking a salary.
NFL: 13th (15th)
Watching the Rams on Sunday was like taking a trip back in time to the innocent days of … last November. At the time, Los Angeles was still craving the league, thanks to an unrelenting offensive attack. We had not seen much of it this season, at least not until Jared Goff had collected more than 400 yards in just over three-quarters against the Cardinals. Robert Woods had 13 catches for 172 yards and Todd Gurley had a total of 115 yards late in the game. It was a perfect match for the Rams after a whiplash at the hands of the Ravens two Mondays ago. The big question: Was it a sign of a turnaround for the Rams … or was it just a mirage against one of the poor in the league? This week's peak watch clash against the Seahawks will tell us a lot.
CBS: 15th (16th)
It was an impressive performance against the Cardinals. Where was this defense against the Ravens?
Yahoo !: 12th (16th)
Jared Goff would have accumulated 500 yards if the Cardinals had been more competitive. Goff has games like this and you wonder where he spent the whole season with him and this Rams offensive.
Conference on professional football: 13 (17)
The program will be more and more difficult, but if they play as they did against the Cardinals, it does not matter.
USA Today: 13th (14th)
Tracking the worst performance of the season with their best. It looks like their stars are finally healthy, but they must stay aligned for a return to the playoffs.
MMQB of SI: 12th (15th)
Much, much better from the Rams, who set their sights on everything that remained of 2018 while Jared Goff spun a gem of 32 out of 43, 424 yards with two touchdowns and a score of 120.7. Todd Gurley rebounded after his disappearance against Baltimore, carrying the ball 19 times for 95 yards and a touchdown (as well as a solitary reception for 20 yards). Robert Woods was busy on the outside (13 catches of 172 yards) while the defense was successful against Kyler Murray (six sacks).
The athletic: the 13 (17)
The Rams have apparently found a time machine back in 2018 in the six days following their defeat Monday night in Baltimore and the overwhelming victory of Sunday in Arizona. Jared Goff had his best game of the season (424 passing yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, one sack), Todd Gurley and Malcolm Brown averaged 5 yards per run while Aaron Donald destroyed the offensive play plan Cardinals. Will it be enough to start a playoff series? It may be too late for that, but it is certainly encouraging to see the Rams look like, well, again.
