According to the Ministry of Justice, 173 people have been arrested in connection with the Corona riots in the Netherlands. Further arrests would follow, Justice Minister Ferd Grapperhaus informed the parliament in The Hague on Tuesday. The rioters would be held accountable. At the weekend there had been violent riots in several places for three nights in a row.
In Rotterdam, a corona demonstration got out of hand and the police even shot people with live ammunition; four people were injured. According to Grapperhaus, in some places it was about “organized violence” without concrete social or political content. The minister condemned the violence against the police, fire brigade and auxiliary workers in particular. They were attacked with fireworks that resembled explosive devices and stones. The rioters had devastated inner cities.
According to reports from the police, it was also uneasy in some places on the night of Tuesday. Young people in particular have set off fireworks, started fires and rioted. Roosendaal was again the scene of violence in the south of the country.
