12 cases of the new meningococcal B variant, several visited Chambéry, large vaccination campaign in 205 municipalities

Over the past twelve months, 12 cases of a new meningococcal B variant have been reported in Auvergne Rhone-Alpes. The Regional Health Agency conducted an epidemiological study, and looked for common points to know it better and prevent its spread. The people concerned were all aged 16 to 21, and most frequented the Chambéry sector (residence, employment, outings), and eastern Lyon. According to the first analyses, this new variant does not necessarily appear more contagious, nor more virulent than the classic strain. It is, unfortunately, no less so either.
