10 ambassadors comment from Abdullah Gül: It paves the way for other crises

WALL – While evaluating President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s order regarding the deportation of the ambassadors of 10 countries to Turkey, 11. President Abdullah Gül said, “It opens the way for other crises. It is necessary to leave this task to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, not to reveal new problems, and not to take them to places where there is no way out.”

Speaking to Deniz Zeyrek from Sözcü, Abdullah Gül drew attention to the fact that Turkey is one of the founding countries of the Council of Europe and pointed out that he also served as a member of parliament for 10 years in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The President was imprisoned and we collected 90 signatures for the text we prepared for him with the support of the socialists, and brought the issue to the agenda of Europe.”

‘NO ZEVAL TO THE AMBASSADOR’

“The event should not have been brought here. This is a great burden for Turkey,” Abdullah Gul said in the ambassadors’ statement to Osman Kavala, reminding that they followed the instructions of their headquarters:

“What has been done is unacceptable. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already called and given the necessary messages. There is no shame in the name of the ambassador. It is no longer in the country’s interest to turn this issue into a much bigger crisis. It paves the way for other crises. It is necessary to leave this job to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, not to reveal new problems and not to take them to points where there is no way out.”
